By day I’m a journalist in Northern Kentucky. By night (and at spare moments throughout the day), I am voraciously reading every supernatural young adult book series out there.
Some of my favs? The Vampire Diaries, Darkest Powers, The Mortal Instruments, Beautiful Creatures, Wicked Lovely series and Percy Jackson & The Olympians.
Thanks for stopping by!
You are definitely not the only one out there. I work part time at a bookstore and there is a virtual army of us not-so-young YA fantasy readers. Percy Jackson and the Moral Instrument series are both on the top of my list. Looking forward to following your blog and you on twitter.
Very cool … very insightful … love reading your stuff Regan!
Hey do you teach middle school English? lol I think I might know you or you have the same name as my past english teacher tehe
My older sister, Marcie, used to teach English at Ockerman MIddle School in Florence – her name is Goderweis now, but her maiden name is Coomer. 🙂
OMG LOL I had her for english my 7th and 8th grade year! That is crazy. I had no idea she had a sister… small world huh?
Hi Regan
I meet you at Kelley Armstrong’s signing friday. I like your site and I have read most of the same books. I am not much of a writer, but more of a photographer. But I am planning on being at the signing in Sept and hope to see you there. I would like to suggest a series which is one of my favorites and its a quick reads. “Eight Grade Bites” (Chronicles of Vladimir Tod). Its from a teen boy’s point of view, a teacher from NY suggested it to me and I absolutely fell in love with the series and the author seems to be a HOOT!!
Looking forward to your updates and book reviews.
Keep smiling
Rachel 😉
Thank you Rachel! Somehow I missed this comment, but thank you for the compliments and I did go to the September reading (did you?). It rocked my world more than a little. 🙂 I also blogged about it.
I subscribed to your blog…love it! Glad I’m not the only “not-so-young adult” out there!!!
You definitely are not. There’s actually a club for older YA readers at my local bookstore.
Your site rocks! Not just for the not-so young adults,
but for every teen who is sick of reading gushing stories
about Twilight (Not that I wasn’t gushing myself at one point.
What can I say? The series is addicting!) Still, it’s great
to read your posts. I love every part of your site, don’t EVER stop
blogging!
Wow Kayma thanks for the compliments!! (I’ve been noticing your name recently!!) Forgive me if you’ve told me before, but are you on twitter? I definitely want to follow you. 🙂
Sadly, I’m not 😦 I’ll just have to keep commenting here…
Hey is there an E-mail I can reach you at. I would love it if you wrote a guest post on my page 🙂
[…] Regan Coomer –a journalist in Northern Kentucky and the owner of “Thoughts on Young Adult Books for the Not-So-Young Adult” Blog– has done me the honor of writing the guest post for today. […]
Hi Regan,
I’ve written a paranormal romance novel for young adults called Being about a female extraterrestrial whose ship crashes outside Lancaster, CA, after colliding with space trash orbiting Earth. Here’s a longer description:
For elite extraterrestrial pilot EBN-Reyoz-X, awaiting rescue while hiding out in a trailer park is a grueling nightmare. She’s injured, lacks proper supplies and can’t blend in with the indigenous population because she’s seven feet tall and can’t control the trail of wildflowers blooming in the wake of her footsteps. She’s unprepared to begin puberty in the alien land and when she develops feelings for Shale, the mute teenage boy next door, she’s convinced circumstances can get no worse.
Except rescue never comes and once word spreads that her touch holds miraculous healing abilities, EBN must find a way to fix her ship, evade capture by the United States Air Force and survive long enough to return home.
I saw on your blog that you review YA fiction and would like to send you an electronic advance review copy. I hold a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Houston, have studied with award-winning novelists and have published articles in a local newspaper. Might you be interested?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
Tamara Mousner
PS–I’m open to sponsoring a giveaway of Being and would be happy to participate in any other promotional events, should I be invited to do so.
