The experience of reading Torment is opposite to that of its title: rather than tormented, you’re contented.
Torment, the followup to Lauren Kate‘s tale of epic love and fallen angels, is chock-full of bittersweet romance, heartbreaking trips through time and lots of demon/angel mayhem.
After the events of Fallen, Luce realizes that she must learn more about her past selves before she can fully commit to a future with Daniel that is, at the moment, all too hazy. Luce starts on her quest for knowledge of her past and the purpose of the shadows questioning not only her love for Daniel, but also Daniel himself.
Kate’s masterful glimpses into Luce’s past are tantalizing – adding another layer to Daniel and Luce’s story, while Luce’s unwillingness to allow Daniel to order her around and keep her in the dark is admirable – Luce isn’t the only one who’s dying to know what’s up with the curse/bad voodoo/dogma that has caused her death thousands of times.
That doesn’t keep her from having a couple oh-so-steamy and well-written scenes with Mr. Daniel, including one event involving the ocean, flight and…that’s all I’m going to tell you, : )
Luce’ s time at Shoreline, a school with hidden Nephilim students, fills in the angels/demons stories a bit and adds some fun new characters – Shelby , especially, is a diamond in the rough. We also get some glimpses of old favorites from Fallen, especially Arrianne who gets a memorable moment in a Las Vegas IHOP.
Meanwhile, more angel/demon mythology shows up to block the path of true love – Kate introduces Outcasts, angels that have chosen neither side and are therefore damned by both. The Outcasts are creepy – blinded eyes, dirty wings and an obsession with Luce that is none too angelic.
The Outcasts are given a starring role in Torment’s climax, which is at times, believe it not, funny and anxiety-inducing. The Thanksgiving scene is hilarious while the epic battle between the angels, demons and Outcasts leaves you wanting more. Thankfully for us, Passion, the next book in the Fallen series, is slated for release this summer. But in the meantime, Torment will be more than enough to sate your passion for fallen angels.

wow i truly love these books you are one of the few inspirational artists that i think about as i write my own stories. these are extremely well written and beautifully climaxed i cannot wait until passion comes out and i might not have even known about these books if it werent for a friend and he should me it and he said it was great it isnt just for females though i think alot of males would like it there is enough friction and war and demon angel outcast issues to keep the romance down for the boys but enough to keep the females into it with the forbidden love it truly is beautiful and exciting and breathtakingly realistic especially for those with vivid imaginations like me and get really into a good book thank you for the books please keep writing 😉
