Hunger for nourishment.

Hunger for touch.

Hunger to belong.

Half-human and half-faery, Ani is driven by her hungers. Those same appetites also attract powerful enemies and uncertain allies, including Devlin. He was created as an assassin and is brother to the faeries’ coolly logical High Queen and to her chaotic twin, the embodiment of War. Devlin wants to keep Ani safe from his sisters, knowing that if he fails, he will be the instrument of Ani’s death.Ani isn’t one to be guarded while others fight battles for her, though. She has the courage to protect herself and the ability to alter Devlin’s plans—and his life. The two are drawn together, each with reason to fear the other and to fear for one another. But as they grow closer, a larger threat imperils the whole of Faerie. Will saving the faery realm mean losing each other?

The Smart Chicks Kick It Tour stopped by the Cincinnati Joseph-Beth Booksellers Friday Aug. 24. Illustrious authors present (left to right) were Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl, Melissa Marr, Kelley Armstrong, Alyson Noel, Jeri Smith-Ready and Jennifer Lynn Barnes! (Smith-Ready and Barnes not pictured)

All of my geeky, writerly, YA-loving dreams came true Sept. 24 when the Smart Chicks Kick It Tour came to Cincinnati. I started this blogging gig in May when I began to notice my recreational reading gravitating almost 100 percent toward YA Supernatural novels. And which authors did I gravitate toward first?? None other than the Smart Chicks headliners, Kelley Armstrong (author of the Darkest Power series), Melissa Marr (author of the Wicked Lovely series) and Alyson Noel (author of The Immortals series). Four months later, I got  to meet them all!

Alyson Noel, author of The Immortals series, and me! Alyson was sooo nice, and thought she recognized me from twitter. : )

I am one lucky girl.

Adding to the dream-like, ethereal quality of the evening were four more YA Supernatural authors, Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl, Jeri Smith-Ready and Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

The Smart Chicks tossed out some swag, answered questions about which of their characters would get along, which character they are most like and their method to solve writers’ block.

The most notable answer to that last question? Marr’s, who said 1. She doesn’t believe in writer’s block, but 2. Sometimes the words just don’t come. Her solution? A snorkle. That’s right. She soaks in her tub, with her little snorkle on, and blocks out all sight and sound. “Then the words start coming,” she said.

Jeri Smith-Ready (author of Shade) and Jennifer Lynn Barnes (author of Raised by Wolves) answer questions at the reading.

Then the fans got a chance to ask off-the-wall questions during a Q&A lightening round, with Stohl emceeing. Questions asked were worst first date, tattoos, book they’d wish they’d written themselves, their first impression of one another plus many more very personal questions. The authors answered “carrot” when they didn’t want to answer.  Let’s just say a lot of carrots were thrown around that day.

Now to pass on my charmed luck. One lucky reader of this blog can win a SIGNED copy of Beautiful Creatures, Book One of the Caster Chronicles, signed by not one, but BOTH authors. Yes. Really.

Two other readers of this blog will win a Beautiful Darkness necklace (The second book in the Caster Chronicles, coming out in just a few weeks  Oct. 12) and a Beautiful Darkness keychain!! Now that’s some swag!

Being entered for a chance to win is easy! FOLLOW @ReganCoomer on twitter, COMMENT on this blog post and RT this contest on your twitter and/or facebook. Please include your email when you comment for notification purposes. One first-place and two second-place winners will be chosen at random. Contest ends Oct. 3.

One lucky person will win a signed copy of Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. A second lucky person will win a Beautiful Darkness necklace; a third will win a BD keychain. Good luck!

Sometimes, luck comes through for you.

Win a signed copy of Kelley Armstrong's Waking the Witch!

It was my turn last Friday during the Kelley Armstrong signing in Cincinnati. As the fantasy/YA/supernatural author was signing, I was snapping photos for this here blog when Ms. Armstrong asked me to EMAIL some to her because she needed them for the story Publishers Weekly was doing about the Smart Chicks Kick It Tour.

BTW: the Smart Chicks Kick It Tour includes 18 authors, 12 days and 11 cities, kicking off Sept. 13 in Austin, Tex and ending in Ontario Sept. 25. One of the stops is Cincinnati’s Joseph Beth Booksellers at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 featuring Kelley Armstrong, Alyson Noel, Melissa Marr, Jessica Verday, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Jeri Smith-Ready and Margaret Stohl.

I happily complied with Kelley’s request and a week later, Voila! My photo is now featured in the Publishers Weekly article. It’s the one of Kelley handing a book to a fan. : )

And while we’re on the subject….

Yes, you, can win a signed copy of Waking the Witch by commenting on this post.
