While many of my new supernatural YA reads come from friend recommendations or finding them through assorted happenstance, sometimes, the magic moment of discovery that is finding a new YA author comes from something as simple as browsing the teen aisle at my local bookstore.
In between dodging the 13-year-olds, of course.
And while this may make me sound a little superficial, I must confess that the prettiest covers catch my eye. Is it human instinct to go for the sparkly (read: valuable) things or the part of me that likes anything beautiful?
Dunno, but I go with it and usually, I am rewarded.
Kelley Armstrong’s The Summoning was one such find (Hey – there’s a gorgeous jewel on the cover!) and the resulting exciting, at-times mind-blowing story of a girl dealing with the power to summon and raise the dead was the thrill of my weekend.
In short? Sometimes you should judge a book by its cover.
