If it were up to me, Ian Somerhalder (who plays Damon in The Vampire Diaries) would be the Eye Candy honoree every Wednesday. But believe it or not, he’s today’s feature NOT because he is fantastically hot.
It’s because underneath those eyebrows, those cheekbones and those baby blues that even Frank Sinatra would envy, Ian is an all-around good person who is passionate about his hometown and the environment.
I follow Ian, a New Orleans native, on Twitter and ever since the gulf spill two months ago, he has tweeted nonstop, trying to raise awareness and encourage donations.
“Coming from the entertainment world, I’m really shaken by how quiet Hollywood is,” the actor told E! Online earlier this month. “And I say that out of respect for my peers and colleagues, but I’m really bummed that no one is really coming up to help the situation. I think a telethon is a good way to funnel money into these channels…We need to set one of those things up to really paint a picture of exactly how much devastation is here.”
Apparently he convinced someone because Monday night he and other celebrities participated in Larry King’s special two-hour telethon, Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help, raising $1.8 million dollars for disaster relief.
All I can say is, GO IAN! Here’s his tweet on the telethon around 2 p.m. Tuesday:
“I’m humbled and grateful for all of the support yesterday for our Gulf. The people of the Golf and especially the people of the Grand Isle want to say thank you around the world and at home. It means so much you have no idea…”
